Foreign type 20's ?

Whilst driving past the Colne Valley Railway today I noticed what looked like a pair of orange liveried type 20's.

I stopped on my way back to have a proper look (through the hedge ) and they are numbered 2001 and 2002 and the stenciled writing on them seems to be in French !

Anyone know the history behind them ? The axle boxes say "BR Timken" so they are of BR origin.

Thanks Ian.

I have since found these snippets which confirm your information.

"and some even made their way to France to work for the Compagnie des chemins de Fer Départementaux (CFD) in industry there, although these have since been repatriated."

"Four locomotives have also carried the orange and white livery of the CFD (Compagnie de Chemins de Fer Departementaux') : 20035, 20063, 20139, 20228[12] whilst working in France."

I will try and take my camera with me next time, they are only 5 miles away.

Quoting from the current Railway Magazine, "Two orange liveried ex-CFD Class 20s, Nos.2001 (20035) and 2002 (20063), stored at moveright's depot at Wishaw since repatriation from France in 2005, were transferred to the Colne Valley Railway in February.
No.2003 (20139) was sent for scrapping as expected (RM Jan p87), going to EMR Kingsbury on February 11."

The above mentioned RM Jan p87 gives "One of the four class 20s repatriated from CFD, France is likely to be broken up for spares.
The target loco is No.2003 (20139), which is stored at Moveright, in the Warwickshire village of wishaw, with 2001 (20035) and 2002 (20063).
No.2004 (20228) is now owned by Steve Madge and is based at Barry."

Hope this helps.

Regards, 62440.

I managed to get a picture today but there was only a small gap in a thick hedge.
