Does coil steel bounce ?
G'day,
Finally the ATSB report into an incident in our Mexico back in 2018. A 16 tonne big coil steel roll taking a tumble off the interstater. https://www.atsb.gov.au/media/577902...-008_final.pdf The crew onboard a a subsequent pas job copping a surprise. The steel job from Whyalla SA does occasionally rattle through here when trackwork occurs on the normal route. Remind me to not stand too close to the track. We have also been experiencing some level crossing hiccups recently down-under. https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications...r/ro-2020-020/ https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications...r/ro-2020-021/ Trains definitely are dangerous things. I must say, it appears that investigations down under are quite thorough. In my traffic cop days I was nearly taken out by a bobbin of heavy duty electrical cable which was not properly secured on the back of a truck, and detached itself in my general direction,,,, I was on a motorcycle. My response therefore, is that freight should be thoroughly secured and double cross checked.

Crikey, a bit exposed to catastrophe on a motor bike.
Though, I guess that you can manoeuvre a tad easier on two wheels than four to avoid impending doom. I never felt so EXPOSED to danger as I did while briefly being a biker postie. Honda ag bikes are not all that large, or go very fast. Being overtaken by a big rig or omnibus did make you feel insignificant. Yes, our ATSB are very intense in their investigations, and rightly so. I have never liked standing too close to any moving train. Things can flap around and fall off. Steve. |
