Hello
Hello all, Thanks for having me, I am one of the last footplate men, I was at Aston sheds in Birmingham starting off cleaning and labouring, I just made it to fireman when steam ended and the shed was closed. one of the reasons for joining is I bought a job lot of reel to reel tapes, and on one of them is a BBC recording made in 1960 of the unveiling of Evening star, which I have tried to upload, there is also a recording of the driver of Mallard telling his story of the speed attempt, now I don't know if this is widely available or not,but i thought I would share it just in case it's not
