Hello From Lincolnshire
Hi All this is my first post on here.
I've recently moved from the south of England to Market Rasen,Lincolnshire. One of the first things I did,was to go and check out the railway station. Although it would appear to be unmanned, the station building is lovely. My particular interest is freight trains and wondered whether any use the line through Market Rasen? I'd be obliged for any information on this and related topics. Many Thanks. |

Hi Caronia, there is freight through Market Rasen, I noticed a few when I stayed at the caravan site a few Easters ago.
![]() Best place, and not too far away, is Barnetby-le-Wold station. There 3 lines converge going to Immingham so you get lots of power station coal trains. Happy spotting. ![]()

Hello Caronia and a warm welcome to the forum. Market Rasen was my old stomping ground back in the 50's. I was raised there from 1950 to 1960 before we moved to Lincoln. Many happy memories come flooding back!!!
There is a group in Market Rasen who are dedicated to restoring and maintaining the Station (that is not a patch on how it was). You may find the following links interesting as they give quite a detialed history on the station. In my day I used to travel every day to school in Lincoln being hauled by steam to start with DMU's arriving later about 57. My dad worked on the railway so we used to get free travel passes all over the UK and abroard too. http://community.lincolnshire.gov.uk...sp?catId=22037 http://community.lincolnshire.gov.uk...ON_HISTORY.pdf Anyway hope you enjoy the forum and look forward to your posts. All the best Phil |
