Similar incidents to the ones we are discussing have been happening to railway photographers in the U.S. since 9-11. In fact, it was probably the George Bush administration that instructed our lot to start treating British photographers as potential terrorists.
At least here in the U.K. the over-enthusiastic public servants aren't usually carrying guns
