Hello!!

Hello everyone!

I have just joined the forum so I am very new here!

I have joined because I may be after some help from people with a massive project that I am doing in my spare time.

A bit about me... I am one of a small number of female freight train drivers in the UK, and have an 11 year history on the railway, starting as a senior conductor for a passenger company, to shed driver, to main liner driver on freight. I come from a family of railway personnel in a very wide range of positions such as other drivers, S&T, P'way, signallers and managers. Although I was the first female in the family to do any grade requiring PTS, and I am the second in the family to drive (third including my husband!). I have worked in some amazing locations with one of my favourites being the Cambrian, although I must admit I do love driving over the sea wall at Dawlish Warren, and going from Severn Tunnel Junction to Gloucester via Lydney.

So why may I need some of your help?? Well...Due to how much influence the railway has in my family it was inevitable that someone along the line would have a real deep passion of the railways, and although I am not particularly interested in traction and stock, I have a massive interest in the history of our railways and "old lines". We have been searching everywhere for an Android mobile application that can be a one stop place to get information regarding every locomotive, DMU, EMU, HST, Steam engine, coach and wagon that has run on any UK standard gauge railway, along with the ability to log sightings of these vehicles, and even information regarding trains and locomotives that have been worked, therefore, allowing head codes with full working details to also be in putted. At the moment this application is at a very early stage and there are probably a couple years of work ahead of me to make this app the most comprehensive available. It will initially be released to a select few for full testing and to iron out any issues using the app. It may then, providing testing goes well, be released to the Android Play Store. (At the moment I have not looked into being able to potentially convert into Apple iTunes format, but it may happen). So the help that I am going to be after will be in the form of Pictures, for example I am struggling to find a picture of 11505-D2955-01001. So if anyone has any pictures or information that they are happy to share I would be highly grateful for permission to use this information.

I am more than happy to do a lot of chasing around, and have been in contact with quite a few organisations that have given me copyright permission to their pictures and information. I am not asking to get out of any work, I am asking as it would speed up the whole process of putting this comprehensive and feature rich app together. So if you would like to assist in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Also please rest assured, that if I do find any picture or information that I would like to use, I will always send a written request to the owner of that source to gain permission to use what I have found, and I will also keep a copy of all communications sent and received, to prevent any issues regarding copyright at a later date. Although anyone that provides anything will have the right to contact me directly to ask for their work to be removed.

I look forward to having a look around here, and maybe speaking to some of you in the near future.

Hello hohqueen and welcome to the Railway Forum. With almost 9,000 members on this site, many from the UK, there is a wealth of information at your finger tips. I was never on BR, but did work on the Rhodesian Railways, so I'm not much help to you. I wish you all the best with your project and hope to see it in the not too far future.
