Masters degree 3d artist
Hi all. i m here for research purposes.
I 'm doing a 3d art masters degree and am planing on doing 3d rendition of terrence cuneos piece depicting patricroft locomotive shed 1968. i have a few questions that i need answering. first up what class are the locos in the painting?? is there one of these at the york rail museum so i can take photos??? if not, does anyone have any decent high resolution photos that i could use as reference for building the loco models and textureing. (all images will be correctly Harvard referenced and credited to their original owner) regarding the depot are there any photos of the depot from different angles? Any help would be greatly appreciated. this is an important project for me to undertake as my late father was a locomotive engineer at Thornaby depot during this period of rail history. cheers guys. link to the Cuneo painting http://www.railart.co.uk/gallery/images/cuneo6.jpg |

The two locos are (nearest) Stanier 4-6-0 "Black 5" known at Patricroft as "Mickeys" They were mixed traffic engines mostly used on medium distance fast passenger trains. The second engine is a Stanier 2-8-0 8F freight loco Number 48517 used at Patricroft mainly on coal trains.
Last time I was at York Black 5 No 5000 was in residence but it was in a poor position for photographs. You might try the North Yorkshire Railway or Shildon museum. Models of both locos are readily available in the model trade or at swap meets. There are plenty of photos of Patricroft sheds, this particular view is taken from inside the East shed looking East towards Manchester. |
