Shocking moment cyclist risked her life
Footage emerges of a woman dodging the level-crossing barrier - with nearly deadly consequences.
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/cyclist-lev...l?vp=1#u90rr2G Footage of the incident, which happened at the Waterbeach crossing in Cambridgeshire, has been released by British Transport Police in an attempt to identify the woman and highlight the dangers of misusing level crossings.

What the hells wrong with people today? Are we so pushed for time that risk of life and limb are secondary? Over the last few months we have seen many such near misses, and yet the lesson is not getting through. Do we have to stick a skull and crossbones poster up, with danger of death written under it?

I've seen this on a few other sites if you look at the other side of crossing there seems to be passengers leaving the station, so was there a train in the station and did she think the lights and barriers were down for that train,it's one of the worse one's I've seen

Being a cyclist I have witnessed the sheer stupidity of people who think the warnings and lights do not apply to them! I've witnessed cyclists going though red lights on road junctions too. It happens regularly round the city of Derby! My view as to the reason why she turns back is due to the shock elliment once she realized just how close to death she came.
I also notice this is a crossing in a town so why is there not a double sided barrier to prevent the risk takers from destroying peoples lives! Whatever her reasons there can never be an excuse for stupidity! Regards Phil

Having worked this line and through the station, there are signs on either side of the crossing clearly stating that if lights continue to flash, there is a second train approaching.
It is a pity that the media can't get facts correct though, as one paper claims the train was stopping, when in fact it was passing at speed, and according to local BBC news last night, at 75mph. The platforms at Waterbeach are separated by the crossing, with the 'up' line platform opposite and to the right as shown, with the 'down' one to the left and out of the camera shots. As far as I am aware, only First Capital Connect services stop at this station, as they have done for a number of years now, whereas National Express and East Midlands pass through, but stand to be corrected, as it is a couple of years since I went to/through here.
