Question Diesel Engine on M5

Please accept my apology for a really random question, just posting in the hope that someone will know the answer!

We were driving northbound on the M5, south of Gloucester, early afternoon on Thursday 26th September, and travelling southbound on a low loader was a diesel engine, two which, partly due to our surprise in seeing it there, and partly due to me travelling at 70mph in the opposite direction, we did not get its number/name.

If anyone does happen to know which engine it was, that would be great! I would guess that it was going to either South Devon Railway, West Somerset Railway, Bodmin & Wenford Railway or the Avon Valley Railway... but I could be wrong..

Anyway, just thought I'd post incase someone who happened to be at the location this engine arrived at on Thursday happens to read this post and is able to tell me the right number for it!

Thanks.

Jenny

I don't know the answer I'm afraid, but it might be worth keeping an eye on the Bodmin & Wenford Railway as they have a diesel gala day this Sunday, so this loco might have been on it's way there. Alternatively, it could have been a loco returning to it's home railway, which of course could be any of those which you listed!
By the way, do you have any more details on the loco you saw - colour, size (ie. small shunter or a larger main line loco) or even class if you were able to tell from the opposite carriageway at 70mph!
Anyway, hope you find out the identity of the mystrey loco.

My husband thinks it was a class 25 but not too sure.. it was two tone green, no nameplate that we could see. BR logo on side. It was south of Bristol that we saw it.

Right, this could be it! South Devon Railway's class 25 D7612 (in two tone green) has been at the Great Central Railway for the summer and may have been returning to Buckfastleigh. Still not 100% that this is it, but it would fit.

Glad I could help. Had a bit of time on my hands on Friday! The only thing I wasn't sure about was when D7612 was due to be returning to the SDR from the GCR. The attached picture is D7612 on loan at Spa Valley Railway in 2007.
