Travel to Devon
Hi everyone,
I having been wanting to visit Dawlish in Devon for a couple of years now but am put off by the high train fares. If anyone has any tips or ideas for reaching Dawlish by train from the Bradford/Leeds/Wakefield area please let me know. Many thanks |

sorry but your link makes me smile as you offer cheap travel for Europe but are looking for a cheap way of getting to Devon I'm afraid the only cheap ways are if you are A Rail worker A disable person in a wheelchair (you get 30% off if you stay in your wheelchair even without a Disabled Persons Railcard) Any railcard that you are entitled to hold

Hello michael,
From Leeds the cheapest way to get to Dawlish is by Megabus to Exeter and a bus or taxi to Dawlish (depends on time into Exeter). Cost for Megabus is about £20 return, a lot cheaper than the train ! |

I was intrigued to find out just how much this would cost so I looked up random dates way ahead in September. Don't know how they have the nerve to describe a "cheap" off peak return as anything of the kind when it costs £134. I found one way Advance tickets from £40 (if you want to know, the "cheapest" First Class single is over £300) but that's still a hell of a lot of money. The threads on this Forum are full of discussions about our ridiculously high rail fares and understandably too: how are normal people of modest means supposed to afford to travel by rail at all?

Try hitch hiking with an advertising board strapped to you. That way you get free travel and more free advertising.

Sadly, I thought as much, I has just hoped that someone had a little secret that I was missing out on.
Megabus is definitely the cheapest way and something I'd looked into but I was hoping to re-live my youth and travel on the train. Bank in the 80's we used to travel on the night train from Bradford, great memories. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and advice. |
