66048 has been recovered from the Forrest near Carrbridge. Looks quite a spectacular lift!

That is no small job, thats for sure. Imagine the chaos if that had happened on one of the main lines

We had a similar derailment in Newton Abbot a few years ago a HST the third car left the tracks the power car plus the second car broke free I cant remember how many derailed but it was a few and no one was killed or injured. Two big cranes like those in the picture were brought down and within a couple of days the line was open again. I was on duty the day after it happened for 12 hours on a class 37 right next to the race course. ccmmick.

That's a lot of counter-weight.
Thought it was a flying shed at first glance. o_o Stobart air freight.

Hi guys,
I drove past there a couple of weeks ago. They had to remove all the trees and build a road into the place. I imagine it had to be a substatial road in order to get the crane and all it's gear down there. Not surprised it took six weeks. They must have lost a lot of time due to the heavy snow that was in the area at the time. The A9 is not the best of roads in good weather, never mind the snow. Alex |

Glad to see the loco being recovered. It looked rather sad stuck in a wood covered in snow.
I shouldn't imagine Eddy Stobart was too impressed though, it being the very first day that DBS ran his service ! I read in several industry mags that the train 'ran away', and they're looking to see if the weather was a factor. FP |
