Sudbuy-Haverhill-Cambridge line
According to my local newspaper there are suggestions to reopen the lines connecting Haverhill to Sudbury (and thence to Marks Tey on the GE London-Norwich line) and Cambridge.
That could mean my nearest station, Stoke by Clare, would be only a mile away ! I wonder how many of these schemes will become reality ? http://www.suffolkfreepress.co.uk/ne...-on.5398247.jp |

Yes I noticed that as well as I was looking for the Braintree-Dunmow Stansted airport link to be mentioned as well which some of the councils east of the airport have started to look into. It was in the ATOC's list of other lines that they haven't yet had chance to look at.
To be honest I think they can easily make the case for Haverhill to Cambridge as Haverhill is expanding fast and its population is heading for 25,000+ but bridging the gap from there to Sudbury would always be dodgy economically. Someone needs to make a really strong freight case for the line as a diversion to Harwich and Felixtowe from the midlands. Then they might listen. |
