Metrovicks
A loco that I have not seen any post about on this site. Does anyone have any photos and or any information of these locos. I understand they were numbered D5701 to D5718 and were used in the north a lot although I have seen some old photos of them in the London area.

They used to run on the "Condor" double headed. That was an Anglo-Scottish Frieght.
I think they ran double headed because they where not very reliable.
I once saw one about 1960.(I think), leaving Derby on a Manchester train.
I went on a school trip to Derby Loco Works, just before I left school in 1962, and a couple where in store outside.
Paul.

There's one that appears in quite a few Thomas the Tank Engine episodes.

Seriously though, I'm sure I read a few years ago that there's still one of them in bits somewhere and some people had the idea that they'd be able to restore it. I hope they can if its true.

Thanks for the info and leads on Metrovicks guys. It is very useful. Trev the site you gave me has a lot of info about D5705 being restored. The amazing thing was that after I had read through the site I went on to Stumble and the third site to come up was the photo gallery on that site. thanks again guys

One extra bit of info about the Co-Bo's that I only found out about today was that they were the last diesel electrics to be built at the Bowesfield, Stockton on Tees works of Metro-Vickers/ Beyer, Peacock.

When you travel past Bowesfield on the Darlington Saltburn line you can just about make out where the branch to the works was. As you look at the signal box, just to the right of it there is a cutting.

Trev: Try picturestockton site via google. There's quite a bit on the old Metrovick Works at Stockton in the railways and transport section, Used to see the D57XX co-bos on test C1959, usually either south to the Leeds area or sometimes north to Newcastle eg D5716 in around April,1959.
