Wishaw South Station

Hi,

Anyone got any pictures or info on this Station.
It was about 16 miles south of Glasgow on the WCML. Closed in late 50's

Thanks

I've never seen a photo of Wishaw South. There is a photo on ebay now (19 Mar 2010) which the seller claims is Wishaw South. An aerial photograph of nearby R Y Pickering (wagon works) showing part of the station does exist. It was used in publicity material. I'll check it against the photo on ebay and report back asap

I am sure that the photo on ebay is Wishaw South Station.
Wishaw Station was opened by Wishaw & Coltness Railway (1841) The Wishaw & Coltness was absorbed by the Caledonian Railway forming part of the route to Glasgow.
On 1st June 1880, the Wishaw Deviation line was opened from Law Junction to Carfin (now Holytown) Junction. A new station nearer to the town centre was opened as Wishaw Central and the original station renamed Wishaw South. Wishaw South closed on 15th September 1958.
The station was on an embankment with a goods yard at ground level. The site of the goods yard was used as an oil depot (date closed unknown)

The present Wishaw Station was renamed from Wishaw Central in 1965 but was known locally as Wishaw Central until at least the 1970s.
