Blue Star is one of the forms of multiple working for locomotives.

i'm surprised you don't know. From what I've read in your other posts you seem like an experienced trainspotter. anyway, the blue stars are a class of multiple working on diesels. if a locomotive has a blue star, then it can easily do multiple working with another locomotive which has a blue star. I'm not exactly sure what specifications a locomotive needs in order to be a blue star multiple worker, but it's things like brake pipe connections and gangways. You could look it up. There are lots of other sybols too. On more modern locos they tend to have letter codes.

We've got at least a couple of DBS drivers on here who may be able to advise.

I've heard that EWS (as was) pulled out of Hither Green and regrouped at Hoo Jn.

Alledgedly Balfour Beatty has got the place now, which would explain the presence of the blue/white OTMs and dearth of locos.

Another one bites the dust ?
