That's interesting John. Was it a full length train or possibly some sort of test train?
I know there are plans to improve this line to make it suitable for container trains but I haven't read anything about the work being completed yet. Network Rail also want to reinstate the chord line so that trains from the docks can run up to Earlestown and then join the West Coast mainline without having to reverse at Edge Hill.

By the look of things it was a full length train it looked like it was carrying chemicals of some sort but have noticed work being done on the line recently and it wasent long ago that it was re laid.

I do hope Netwrk Rail get there act together abnd re-open this line along with the Stations too and connect it to the northern lIne at Oriel Rd Junction then we could have a new loop system.

Ie, When the train approches Oriel Rd Junction it goes down onto the Cannada Dock line all the way into edge hill Via Edge Lane (Alight Here for The Retail Park) Etc then in to the Waterloo tunel and around into Central and back to Southport.

This would give us a ten minute service plus if there is a filure on the city line in thewavetree area as this is the usuall place for a break down then it only a short walk to Edge Lane station where you ca catch the train still to the City Centre with minimum fuss.
