Hartlepool to Hull

I am not sure if anyone can help me, but I am trying to find out if an ancestor could travelled from Hartlepool to Hull as described by another relative. Apparantly sometime during 1902/3 my great grandfather was "put on the last train out of Hartlepool and he got off in Hull as that was the end of the line." Could this have happened? Was there a direct rail link between Hartlepool and Hull at that time?

I would appreciate any advice or info regarding this.

Many thanks to both repliers, but unless I am looking in the wrong places (I dont understand anything about trains), I cannot see if there was a direct line between Hartlepool and Hull, or if passengers needed to change at a different station. Perhaps this information no longer exists.

Try and find a Bradshaws for the area and time period that may help you don't think a timetable will still exist

No actual direct route but there may have been a through service.
Probable route would be
Hartlepool, Middlesborough, Northallerton, York then Selby and Hull.
Unlikely to use the direct York - Hull line as this would involve a reversal at York.
May have avoided York by turning off near Thirsk at Pilmoor and using the Malton and Driffield line but again this would mean a reversal at Driffield.
Unlikely to use the coast line due to reversal required at Whitby and at Scarborough.

Middlesborough - Whitby ( May get away without reversing if not calling at Whitby town station) - Falsgrave (Reverse) Scarborough - Hull

Unless you have details of an actual service that ran in 1902 -3?

I think your Grandad was right and he caught a direct train probably in the evening (late afternoon)from Hartlepool to Middlesborough then via Saltburn and Whitby Westcliff to Scarborough (reversal) and on to Filey Bridlington (arriving around 7-50 pm) and Hull Paragon. In the dracula film made in the 80's the station master at Whitby calls out the stopping places for such a train and I checked the timetable afterwards to find that there was indeed a Hartlepool to Hull train at least once a day. The coastal portion contained through carriages from Hartlepool. It probably had fish vans attached at the rear.
