Karlskrona C, a report

Wrote this "report" in a swedish railway forum and thought that, why not share it with you. Maybe someone is interested in how a brand new swedish railway station looks like. I concentrated on the technical stuff, as that is my profession.

utfart_ck.JPG
The exit from the main yard at Karlskrona C (the station area continues some kilometers north).
To the left, platform track 1, and far right, track 5.
Point 429 to the left divide track 41 into track 1 and 2-4 via point 415 and 413 (just outside the pic)
At track 5, a parking track without platform, the so called "flank protection" consists of a derailer and a shunt signal ("dwarf").

plattformar_ck.JPG
The platforms.
To the right, point 417a that divide track 1 into track 6 and 1.
You now can see why the main track goes through the curved track:
The curve in and out of the point has the same radius as a 1:9 point.

417b.JPG
The flank protection at track 6, also a parking track, consist only of this manual derailer, locked with a so called "snigel" (snail).

X31 4407 and 4369 ready for departure at platform 1. Or at least 4369 as 4407 are scheduled to leave later.

spar_2-3-ck.JPG
Buffer stops at platform 2 and 3. It was a hot day when we mounted these.
Something that can not be seen is the old 4,5 meter long rails from the old yard, that we used as pile (soft ground).

Platform 4 and track 5. The buffer at track 5 is of the moveable type, that stops movement more softer.
This is done with a rich amout of lubricants on the rails before mounting and another moment when fastening. Now they usually rust tight anyway...

x31_4369+4407-ck.JPG
X31 4369 have just released the doors for opening.
The mother with the two childrens stoop at the far end of the platform and the children had a lot of questions about the yard, that the mother of course could not answer. I was thinking of giving answers but then we probably still would stand there at the platform

North from platform 1 and 2.
To the left derailer 417b and point 417a. On platform 1 main dwarf signal showing "Clear 40".
In the second bridge (for overhead lines) repeater signals 118:1, 116 and 114 hangsd.
Platform 2, with the shortest platform, have to repeater signals: 118:1 and 118:2. Both can be seen from a train standing at platform, so I dont know why they doubled them.

rep_118-2-ck.JPG
Repeater signal 118:2.

x31_4394+4407-ck.JPG
We end with this pic taken later than the other ones.
X31 4394 have just arrived platform 3 and 4407 have not yet departed from platform 1.

After this I went to eat some kroppkakor and then went northbound to Virserum.

Nice that you liked it.
Noticed that I did not write what a "snail" is.
It is a lock consisting of a cylinder going through a hole in a rod connected to the rod that changes the point blades (or the derailer in this case). When the derailer (or the point) needs to be used, an electro magnet pulls the cylinder up, unlocking the rods.
This is usually controlled by the dispatcher by putting the station, or parts of it, in shunting mode (lokalt in swedish, meaning "local") but can also be done by a key being turned on location, locking all signals at "stop".

Hmmm... yes, I like the technical stuff on a railroad so much that I read about things that are not my profession. Im not a signal technician.

Yes the kroppkakor (the blekinge variant) was good and I enjoyed them.
