I will be there as usual but I hanker for something a bit different, like a class 56 or 60, or in ideal world a 58. I know there are massive costs involved in hiring locos in but they did it several years ago with two Freightliner 66s. Is it not viable any more?

I think it simply comes down to what happens to be available at the time. Rail freight in general seems to be struggling to find enough motive power recently. I remember it wasn't too long ago that Deltics were being hired for revenue earning goods haulage.

Hello draximus,
I'm thinking of coming up to the ELR for the steam and vintage bus weekend probably on Saturday 19th October. I cant be bothered driving so I'll come by train, any idea which is the best station to get off at, I thought it might be Bolton. |

Hello. You can get a bus from Bolton direct to Bury, but I'm not sure how close the bus station in Bolton is to the railway station. An alternative would be to get a train to Manchester Victoria or Picadilly and then a tram to Bury interchange, and a ten minute walk to Bury Bolton street station. Hope that helps
