Hello out there in railway land

Just joined the forum after having my interest rekindled by the sight of 60163 storming through Clitheroe station. I lost interest on 4 August 1968 and it's never been the same until I saw this A1 in full flight. The only other A1 I ever saw was back in 1965/6 when we had Kestrel on Lostock Hall mpd.
Here's my pic of Tornado at the head of the Border Raider on 24 June 2010 - what a pic.

Hello Preston Pilot Welcome to the forum. During my time at Kings Cross I fired on several A1s and I'm sure I fired on Kestrel on a Doncaster - Kings Cross express during the late 1950s.

Well here's the first of four pics to start with. The first pair are of Clun Castle from 14 October 1967 and show Clun running light engine running through Lostock Hall L&YR station and later on shed.
The second pair are of 8F 48151 at the head of first Fellsman of 2010 on 2nd June at Clitheroe and then 71000 Duke of Gloucester, also at Clitheroe, last Saturday evening on the final leg of the Cumbrian Coast Express.
I've just moved to Clitheroe and my back garden backs on to the Blackburn-Hellifield line so I shall post more pics as the summer moves on. Presently I've got the builders in and the place is a right tip, but once they've gone, I'm going to build myself mty own den to watch these leviathans.

Hi Preston Pilot
Welcome to the forum. There are a few of us from around Preston area who are very active members of the forum. I'm sure we'll get to meet up when there's a steam train due. I remember the jinty 47472 from my spotting days , it seems like it was always there and never had a day off. Do you remember the pug as well? I think it was 47008

Hi Preston Pilot,
It certainly took a while for your interest to be rekindled but I am glad that it has, there is still plenty of steam action to be seen.
Welcome to the forum.

Hi 46232,
I recall 47472 with great affection loitering in the south bays of platforms 5 and 6. I heard a rumour at the time before it was scrapped that a certain Preston doctor had bought its funnel and dome. Any truth in the rumour? If so, why didn't he go the whole hog and buy it all. I don't recall the Pug, must have been slightly before my time. Did you see the A1 Kestrel on Lostock Hall shed. One of my mates got on his bike and cycled down to the shed whilst we stayed behind at the "Glass Bridge". Sadly, Kestrel was on the move as he pedalled away but we caught it light engine at Preston station. He never lived it down and was the source of much leg pulling.
David.

Hi again PP
I never saw Lostock Hall Shed at all, Southport was my local shed and I soon lost heart with spotting after seeing the Duchesses replaced by diesels This was before I was really old enough to explore further afield.

I did see an A1 at Southport on an excursion - 60136 Alcazar, God knows how it got that trip. The story of your mate brings back so many memories. I missed 46232 (my user name on here) through Preston when I went to the toilet. As it turned out I was never to see it
