Question Can anyone tell me where this is ?

Hi. I need to identify where this photo was taken in the UK. Do the metal struts help ? can you tell from their style what train line/route they are on ? ( I noticed all were solid on a recent trip on East Coast mainline). Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Metals

I couldn't say exactly where it is, but a guess is that it is on the Grand Union Canal close to the West Coast Man Line somewhere in between say Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes. Just a stab in the dark.

Could it be somewhere around Birmingham? There are several stretches on the Barnt Green line where the railway and canal run side by side.

Might be by Dudley Port between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The railway and canal cross the A461 on bridges along side each other.

Doesn't the West Coast main line run alongside the M6 and a canal in the vicinity of Watford Gap services?

That was my thought at first. Certainly the M1 and the WCML run side by side near Watford Gap but I am not sure about the canal. Need a good map to look at.

Took a serious look at the photo after looking at the comments

there are NO OHL visible no cantenary nothing

therefore this is a signal gantry and so without being able to identify the barge for which canal system it's on it could be a large number of places that have canal and railway together

I had spotted the apparant last of cantenary but just wondered if if was not visible because of weather etc., If there are no OHL then as you say it could be anywhere.

It doesn't look like a particularly recent photo, so could it possibly be the cantenary is in place, but awaiting fitting of wires many years ago?

The gantry on the photograph could be for colour light signals which means that if it is, it will be a four track railway.
