Smile hello

Just a few lines to say hi to you all.
I was born within site of the west coast main line, near Springs Branch, just south of Wigan. My granddad worked at the shed, as did his brothers.
I have moved a few times to different areas in Lancashire, some away from the lines, but I have never lost my love for railways.

Hi Springs Branch Mickey, welcome to the forum, enjoy.
Just up the road from myself, I used to go round that depot quite often.
Regards
Alan

I used to get to Lostock Hall once in a while. It was always worth a look in.
My favourite spot at Wigan was on the sand brew, overlooking Westwood power station and the canal feeding it near Wigan pier. It was great to watch the Semis bank hard over as they took the curves at speed, having just screamed through Wigan North Western on their way south.
From this vantage point if you turned 180 degrees you could see the Lanky line running into Wallgate. Sometimes you would get a foreigner like a B1. (I saw Gnu come in from Hindley North).
Those were the days.
