You sure it was a class 56?

There are five mainline registered ones at present, three (56301/2/3) that belonged to Fast Line which have been or are about to be sold and two (56311/12) belonging to Hanson Traction which have been been working for Colas, but not recently. AFAIK none of these has worked for months.

Talking of 56s, I notice that 3 or 4 have arrived at EMR's scrapyard in Sheffield together with a 37.

Talking of class 56s, just seen 56312 out working between Hams Hall and Dollands Moor for the first time in months.

What colour was the 56 you say you saw? As there are only a handful of mainline registered ones, it might be possible to identify it by livery.
56301 to 303 are in Fast line grey with yellow and white stripes, click for example ,
56311 is a pale grey with yellow cabs see here and 56312 is an unmistakable purple with bright green writing like this . I seem to recall that there was also one turned out in a dark green similar to GW livery, but am unsure if it ever got as far as the mainline.

Ah well, it wouldn't have been a class 56 then - maybe 60007 or 60059, both of which have been working recently and both (I think!) still carrying Loadhaul colours. All the class 60s are opertaed by DB Schenker.

Can I suggest that what you saw was a COLAS RAIL class 47, these are in a very similar colour scheme to the old Loadhaul livery. http://www.railwayforum.net/gallery/...atid=newimages will show you what I mean, there are three locos in their fleet and they get all over the place.

Regards, 62440.

You have a point there 62440, though can't think what a Colas loco was up to on a tank train but, as you say, they do get around.
