Having lived in France for some time, it saddens me that the normal excellent standards provided by SNCF (which I use frequently) seem to have failed here. I, like Silver Fox Phil, have sympathies for all those affected by this tragedy.

From what I'm reading, corpses are being robbed, seems a bit different to how they would secure a similar incident in the U.K.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...es-bodies.html

I heard a "connector rod" attached at both ends to keep the rails a proper distance apart became dispatched. Any word that this might have been caused by heat (occurred in hottest part of afternoon) buckling the rails? I've heard no word on why the rod was improperly attached. Sam

When I heard the report regarding the loose tie bar I immediately thought of the Potters Bar incident which struck as being very similar circumstances and results. Very sad for all involved in both cases.

Another crash in this month: the oil train crash which has reported death toll rise to 13 and 40 missing, where it was moving with each of its wagons carrying around 113,000l of crude oil.
