Underground relief road is opened (BBC News)

A £27m relief road has opened in Tipton, taking cars underneath the railway line rather than using the level crossing.

Yes, quite substantial but the cost of any sort of work on the railways always seems astronomical to me.

Anyway, it's a much needed improvement which should have been done years ago (when of course it would have been much cheaper!).

Found a link with a video in the local Rag. (You have a minute of adverts first) It would appear the tunnel is 190 foot long due to the oblique angle that it crosses the line

It was a very busy crossing. I used to ride a bike to Tipton which allowed me to cross the line via the pedestrian tunnel. Used to really upset the motorists. The station is having a major revamp as well.
