Thumbs up Hello from Manchester!

Hi there, new to this... Railway is becoming a growing interest for me, I seem to have got the bug for it. Wonder if there is anyone as young as me (22)???
I've always been interested in the history of the local railways near me, and passenger services past and present. Recently started working in this field too which is good fun!

D

Hello DJ_MANC and welcome to the Railway Forum. Once you have the bug it is very difficult to lose it (not that 99.9% of us would want to). You are not the youngest member as we have a number of really young members on the site, which is why we try to keep it clean, we also have some lady members on the site like Squeaky88. What part of the railway are you working on?

Hi,
Well it's good to know I'm certainly not the youngest! I'm working for Manchester Metrolink, doing general customer service and advising out on the system. Hopefully the start of a career in the rail industry!

I have also worked in Customer Services with the RAC. Most of the time it was a good fun job but there were some really nasty people out there as well. I had a small stroke a little while back and had to give up Customer Services, but the firm was very good to me and let me work in another department, but also let me keep my grade and pay rate. I have a lot to thank them for as they could have dropped me down 2 grades. So now I am a 'Customer Service Care Executive' working in the Post Room.

DSY011, that's sounds pretty good, and yes, I meet the occasional nasty sort, more often than not it's just abuse shouted from a distance which is normally quite amusing if anything!

faltskog36abba, good to meet a fellow manc! It is a good system when it works, a lot of problems at the moment with the new signalling system but should be worth it in the end. All going well, the South Manchester line will be open tomorrow, they were running a "ghost" service down there today. It's pretty exciting stuff really, considering it's in an old track bed especially, though I don't know much about the original railway that was there.

And thanks John
