Greetings
The name is Jim, 58 years old and living near Harlesden Station in NW London.
Although I've lived in London for 40 years now, I have vivid memories of night time steam hauled freight trains passing by the front of the house in Grimsby where I stayed briefly as a 8-9 year old kid. The line on which those trains ran is now a busy road called Peakes Parkway. My main interest is in the history of the UK rail network, especially the former East Lincolnshire Line. I am an occasional East Coast user although, being unemployed, I make only 3-4 trips per year with one to York coming up in March, thanks to East Coast's January Sale which had also given me the opportunity to afford First Class for the very first time. I have never worked on BR/NR although I am a former London Underground booking office clerk (1983-94). |

Hi Jim and welcome to the forum. I am a Lincoln man though now I live in Derby. I was a spotter in Market Rasen back in the late 50s and then in Lincoln in the early 60s. In 1966 I joined the army and so my happy days of spotting came to an end. During those years I loved to visit Pywype Junction for a varied selection of traction, including Brits and 9Fs B1s and a host of other LNER traction. Lincoln Central was great at weekends when they had works on the ECML and so diverted a lot of classy locos. My dad worked on the railways and so we enjoyed loads of free tickets. Made life very easy.
Those steam engines and trains from Grimsby passed through Market Rasen and were I believe mainly fish trains. All good stuff! Anyway enjoy the forum All the best Phil
