Class 37 and 55

I like the Class 37 and 55 locomotives very much. Can anyone tell me what are the big letters and numbers in a display in the front of some locomotives fore ??

They are called "Reporting Numbers" and are used to identify individual trains. The numbers are still used "behind the scenes" by the railway industry but no longer officially appear on the front of trains.
