Forty years ago there were calls for stop lights linked to height detectors to be fitted at this bridge which was even then subjected to "bashes". There used to be a rubbish tip on the Iver side of the bridge, near the oil terminal, and at least once a month a skip waggon left the tip with the skip arm raised. There is no way that any double dekker bus would go through, it used to have about 13' clearance.
