Five to hospital after train fire

19:20 today the fire department was called when one of the engines in railbus Y1 1285 (Arriva) started to fire outside Finnerödja. The fire department had trouble reaching the railbus with their vehicles. They reported that they will not try to put out the fire as it already was to big. The fire was still not under control at 22:00.
Five passengers got minor injuries and the train crew inhaled some smoke but noone was seriously injured.
The railbus will have to be lifted from the sight.

The train traffic to and from southern sweden had to be stopped with chaos following. When the fire is put out only one of the tracks will be possible to use.

According to the driver the fire alarm sounded and the automatic extinguisher in the engine compartment was activated but the fire continued.
30 seconds later the whole railbus was filled with smoke. The train crew used all the extinguishers in the train, with no result.
The fire department also had to use extinguishers as they could not reach the site with their tank unit.

Probably diesel leak in the engine.
