Former Advenza Loco's

Hello folks,

Can anybody shed any light on the current status or likely fate of the Advenza loco's dumped at Cardiff Cen (class 57) and Gloucester (47)? These have been static for many months with no apparent attention being received; indeed the Cardiff 57 was rammed hard up against the blocks in a minor shunt I believe, and is still sat like it now. Such a shame to see presumably serviceable loco's just being left to sieze up. I understand the whole outfit remains in the hands of the receivers, the likely overhauls needed to recomission these loco's surely does nothing at all to help with their value?! I heard a rumour that they may end up being weighed in as scrap as this is thought to be the most profitable means of selling these assets?! Let's hope that this isn't the eventual outcome.

Read in this months 'Rail Express' that 57005 and 57006 have now been sold to HNRC, still awaiting collection though...

When in Freightliner Hands 57's had to be started every 48hrs during bank holiday shut downs just to lubricate vital components ie Turbo Charger. In winter they have to be run up daily for 2 x 4hr periods to prevent frost damage. That they have gone to HNRC as opposed a Scrap Operation will mean they at least get a proper engineering examination and I'm sure if financially viable they will be put back into working order, for the demand still exists for Locomotives of their power among the smaller FOCs. Scrap and recovery of components will be the option, if they are judged beyond economic recovery.

they have an engineering base at Barrow Hill Engine Shed though they have moved out of the Roundhouse into one of the new buildings now so it is a lot more difficult to see what they have inside -- although they seem to be busy 7 days a week

This is true, but sadly the number of small FOCs is shrinking due to the recession, eg Fastline. My TOC is rapidly filling its vacancies with freight drivers at the moment - soon they'll outnumber us passenger softies.

I'm surprised though that DRS isn't interested in adding the locos to it's 'Heritage Traction collection'. They've always got money to burn...except when there's a pay deal due.
