Driver Uniforms....?
Hello - I am looking to find out what a Thames Train driver, and a FGW driver would have been wearing in the 1990s....is anyone able to help?? The basic clothing - colours and any accessories that they would have had

Thames Trains and First Great western came into existence at privatisation, that was April 1994, so B.R. uniform would have been phased out starting then.

Drivers and trainmen had narrow lapels to their jackets, whilst revenue staff e.g. conductors, guards, ticket office had double breasted jackets. They would also have had Thames and Chiltern ties, Purple and a lighter purple thin diagonal stripe with Thames and Chiltern written on the bottom.............I think

I was still wearing my BR gillet, with a nice big BR Logo on it untill quite recently.
The early gillets had pretend hi viz lining , the gillet I wear now has a blue lining to it. This clothing is handy for carrying your diary, mobile phone and diagram in the breast pocket, and loose change in the side pockets. The issue trousers alway spilled all your loose change out when you sat down. My son made millions of £s from me spilling me brass all over the chairs at home.
