Hi from New Zealand

Hi all. Just found this site and thought it would be worthwhile to join. have been interested in trains all my and have been on many. The North Auckland line runs straight behind our backyard with a logging train going through twice a day from Otiria to Whangarei Port. Am also a trainee diesel driver for the Bay of Islands Vintage Railway[a 45min drive from my place] which operates Gabriel, a 1927 30 ton Peckett 4-4-0T steam loco. She was one of 5 similar locos built by Pecketts and is the only one of her class remaining.I will be posting some more info later on how the railway came to be and the locos that run it.

Good morning Dieseldude, welcome to the Forum
This a superbly friendly site with a great bunch of members.
I hope you enjoy being part of it and certainly look forward to your posts and indeed photos if you have any.

There are a lot of retired BR staff on here and many enthuiasts and we all have our own intererests and memories, but we all get on very well together.

Enjoy and by the way compliments of the season and a very happy new year to you and yours in New Zealand.

Welcome to the forum, im sure youll fit right in and be making friends in no time. Just been watching all of the appendices of the LOTR trilogy so a lot of views of new zealand, looks like a brilliant place and id love to go over there sometime. Is there any 'famous' rail journies over there? would seem like a good holiday to do.

A very warm welcome Dieseldude from a very cold England. You really do live in a lovely country; I have great memories of 2 visits:

1n 1976, (like you) I was woken by an early train passing close to my sleeping quarters, but that was the nearest I got to a train on that trip.

My next visit was in 2005 which was great because I got a ride on the Trans-Alpine to Arthur’s Pass, which must be one of the most scenic train journeys in the World:

Let's have lots of pic's from the Bay of Islands Railway and any others you are able to visit.
