Employment records LMS railway Birmingham

Hi, I joined as I'm researching family tree and my grandfather was employed by the LMS as a Carter before WW1 at Saltley Birmingham. I was wondering if there may be records of his employment?
Any help gratefully received.
Bill

Hello Billysiv and welcome to the forum. If your Grandfather was employed at Saltley before WW1, he would have been employed by the MIDLAND Railway. This became part of the L.M.S. at what was called "The Grouping" at the start of 1923. It is my understanding that surving records are held at the National Archives, Kew. Someone else on here may be able to help with Reference Numbers, etc.
Good luck with your research, I hope you get on better than I have, I'm totally stuck trying to sort out my Mother's Grandparents!

Regards, 62440.

Hello again Billysiv, I found a book review in the December edition of Steam world that seems to be just what you're looking for. The details you need are:

Title: My Ancestor Was a Railway Worker.

Author: Frank Hardy.

Publisher: Society of Genealogists Enterprises Ltd, 14 Charterhouse Buildings, Goswell Road, London, EC1M 7BA. or www.sog.org.uk

ISBN 978 1 907199 02 8

Price: £7.50. (Plus £1.70 p&p if ordered from the above)

Hope this helps.

Regards, 62440.

Cheers John, the review makes me wish I had Railway ancestors instead of Miners!
