People will never learn, railways are dangerous places. Now there is another poor driver who will be having nightmares for years to come, and family members who will never know why they did such a stupid thing.

I stood on a bridge close to March station yesterday and saw a Pedestrian RUN across the level crossing in front of an on-coming train, seconds away from the crossing. My heart went out to the driver.

I never had a suicide when i was on the railways i and i dont know how i would have been with it.
If someone wants to end there life i dont think i would have been to bad but to kill a work colleague or a kiddy then that would destroy me.

People are so stupid and irresponsible when it comes to railways i think we have all put pennies on the line as kids but none of us played chicken or other stupid things you get hit with a train its goodbye.

A sad story that happened early 70s.
A down express Plymouth to Penzance killed a little girl at Keyham the loco a class 800 was taken off at Par and taken to St Blazey to be examined underneath the fitter a scottish bloke Jack a lovely man said if you think i am going under that loco then think again.
To this day there are always flowers at Keyham platform where it happened.

No doubt that she would have been married and had children of her own very sad.

A quick update on this matter. According to a paper in my local butty shop, it turns out that the blokes on the quad bikes where making there escape after a ram raid in which they stole 200 ski jackets.

From what I read in my paper today, they certainly Paid their penalty in Full, but it is always the driver of ANY train involved in matters like this I have nothing other than 100% sympathy with FIRST.

Some years back, I visited a loco shed in Montzen, in Belgium, near the german border; I was given a ride back to the nearest station, Welkenraedt, in the cab of a diesel railcar on a (since closed) section of line which was (by then) only used for staff trains. About halfway, the driver slowed right down to almost walking pace, and sounded the horn several times. He pointed at a large old house a few hundred yards up a slight hill, and explained (in French) that the building was, for lack of a better translation, a lunatic asylum, and inmates were known for jumping in front of trains on a more or less regular basis, hence the extreme caution. The driver said death had occurred, but whether he meant just one, or several, I can't say. Always a worry, no doubt.

I must say that deaths on the railway are hardly ever down to the driver.
The fact is that trains are basically huge and make quite a bit of noise.
Stopping distance is going to be long.

I remember watching the series on the london underground with someone being run over by a train, and the driver was shaking uncontrolably.

I hate it when people try to campaign to have drivers imprisoned for this.
I understand how upset the families must be, but they need to accept that it is not fair for an innocent man or woman just doing their job to spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

If you tresspass, you will DIE.
Thats the only message anyone needs to know.
