the ecclesbourne valley railway.
I would quite like to go here, and see what replaced steam.
I have heard that it is going to extend, is this true and to where? Sounds like a nice railway anyway.

John HT will fill you in fully as he volunteers on the line, but I was there last week and can confirm it is a nice railway.
It is to be extended to Duffield, I think most of the infrastructure is there now but the opening is in 2010. We rode from Wirksworth to Idringehay, about 40 minutes round trip in a DMU 2 car set. The opposite direction is to a halt which you can walk to through the Stone Centre near Wirksworth, not sure on the exact area names. The staff seemed lovely and everywhere was clean & tidy. Pete

A very professionally run railway, that has achieved a phenominal amount of work in such a short time. They will be turning a few more heads when steam returns and would recommend a visit to anyone. The track is superb and many other heritage lines could learn from the standards they are setting both in terms of stock and personnel in providing both an excellent tourist and enthusiast attraction.

Ive just found this: KIRTLEY JOHNSON CO
Its a film made in 1962 by the BBC in their series "Railway Roundabout" It is also available as part of a DVD published by www.dukevideo.com It was my local line. I can just remember an LMS passenger train (probably a "push pull") waiting on the branch platform at Duffield. Later it was used for testing the early prototypes for the Derby Lightweight DMUs (so "Iris" is back home after sterling post-retirement for the Research Department.) In addition the film starts with the south end of Derby station and works the way it used to be so it's all pretty nostalgic. Last edited by wyvern; 22nd February 2010 at 17:39.

This particular film is in the posession of the National Railway Museum and you may be able to see if you go to York.
Some films are with the BFI and some may be seen on "Screenonline" through an educational establishment which might include certain public libraries.
