Manchester Victoria Station's Telpher

Reading an old issue of the BackTrack Magazine I discovered something about Manchester Victoria Station, something of which I was completely unaware!

As an engineer in my past, I should have been aware of what a Telpher is. Sadly, I have only just realised!

It is an interesting piece of trivia.

The Telpher was used to transport parcels across the full width of the station and operated throughout the interwar period. You can find out more by following this link:

Must have been a pleasant job working above those steam locos!

Pretty dirty, I guess, but I would have loved the mixed smell of steam, oil and smoke.

Yeh, no good for somebody suffering from Acrophobia, or as Hitchcock preferred, Vertigo.
Go home and hurl the clobber into the wash to soak out all the soot and cinders.
Just hope that somebody does not park a soot belcher underneath and let the safeties blow off.
Don't think that we had anything as elaborate as that here.
Just the ubiquitous platform hand cart.
