Waterloo Train Station Steps

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and need to ask some advice from people who know about Railways.

I'm working for a company that is salvaging the famous stone steps from Waterloo Train Station, London and am wondering if it is something that has a value in itself. It seems really bad to be just selling it as reclaimed stone as it is so historical.

Do you think there are people who would want these steps in a whole batch? I would much prefer that than the route we are going down.

Hope you can help. Thanks, Nina

Yes absolutely.
I would consult a heritage railway about them, as they may be able to adapt them for their projects. Ones close to London (or in the south of England) include The Mid Hants Railway, The bluebell Railway, The Spa Valley railway, The Epping Ongar Railway and there are others.

In Britain there are over 120 heritage railways and I'm sure one of them would be able to help you.
I am very surprised that the steps have not been given some sort of legal protection that prevents their sale as 'reclaimed stone' and choosing to simply sell in such a way may cause an uproar, and bad press for your company.

Well worth saving, hope this helps.

Where are the steps from at Waterloo the only ones I can recall are the ones at the front that lead through the arched entrance

Funnily enough, I used those steps on Monday, thought they were looking rather worn and wondered if they were due for refurbishment!

I am sure my colleagues observations are correct: these will present you with a great opportunity for positive publicity.
