Altrincham Gas Works Tramway

This short tramway/railway ran along Moss Lane in Altrincham, my home town. I came across it on an IRS email group and wanted to find out more.

Thanks for that Roger, very interesting. It brings back memories of queuing at the local gas works in a line of prams, pushchairs and wheelbarrows for a sack of coke. Coal was rationed until 1957 but you could have as much coke as you could transport. I recall the teacher saying there were around a hundred by-products that were produced in the manufacture of town gas, including aspirin.
