Central Park, Newton Heath station?

Being a resident of North Manchester, some years back we were told that when the new metrolink station, at what is now called; Central Park, the old Northampton rd/North rd area, that we would be getting a new Rail/Metrolink/ bus interchange station. I've heard nothing about it for ages now. does anyone know if the railway station part has now been scraped?

During the rebuilding of the Rochdale/Oldham metro line, I would have thought that a station would be built between Victoria and Dean Lane because the area will be in need of metro access; Queens Road would seem to be an ideal site.
