Former BR MKII carriages start new life in NZ

On 17th May, 2007, four former BR MKII carriages began a new life in New Zealand running between the capital, Wellington, and Masterton in the province of Wairarapa, 91km distant. Commuters between the two destinations have up until now been using carriages built between 1937 and 1943 but the new 'SW' (S for Scenic, W for Wairarapa) have now started to replace the old timers. By 2010 a total of 24 new carriages will be in service.

The carriages were rebuilt from the frames up at the Hillside workshops in Dunedin.

A photograph has been posted of the new carriages and former 'A' car.
