Smile Newcomer from Birmingham

At last! A forum dedicated to railway enthusiasts like myself. Briefly, I am aged 62 and have loved railways ever since I discovered a GWR main line 5 minutes walk from my house. I started taking an interest from about the age of about 8 or 9 I would guess. I was therefore lucky enough to see steam working on BR, then the transition period with the early diesels and electrics. I try to visit as many heritage lines as I can and am a long time member and supporter of the Severn Valley Railway.
Finally, I do wish the media would stop referring to railway enthusiasts as train buffs! Another annoyance is when they refer to a locomotive as a train! I could go on.....

Hi geoffsvr, Welcombe to the site from another newbie. I guess we should be honoured to be called 'buff's' as this implies that we are experts in our field of knowledge. ( I'm not overly keen on the term though.) Well happy reading on the forum. Regards Peter.

Hello

Hello Geoff welcome to the forum. How about the term train station and I think calling locomotives trains shows lack of railway knowledge.

Hello Geoffsvr and welcome to the Railway Forum. I agree with you about the media, but then the so called news papers are a law unto themselves. Its not only with railways, they even move county's around. A local paper said the the house was in Bristol in the county of Avon. There has been no Avon county for over 10 years.
