"Network Rail says it does not control charges at most stations, which are run by train operators.
A spokesman said: "The dozen or so we do have responsibility for are at the heart of major cities where public transport alternatives are in abundance and their use encouraged." Then why are the parking charges quoted for London Euston (£16 for eight hours, £22 all day) and Paddington (£14 for eight hours, £22 all day) a fraction of those quoted for Birmingham New Street ( £55 for four hours, then £20/hour), Manchester Piccadilly (£35 for three hours, then £20/hour) and Glasgow Central (£35 for 5 hours, then £20/hour)? Don't Euston and Paddington have an abundance of public transport alternatives?

At my local station, even £3 per day is proving too much with the side streets around the station full of all day parkers with the station car park half empty.
Surely, if they really want to get people out of cars, station parking has to be free or at least at minimal cost.

At Leyland station it is only £1.00 for 24 hours. The charges at Euston etc. are ridiculous and only the business class passengers can afford those rates because they will claim it all back on their expences, does`nt say much for the poor old working man again, what does he do ?

I have to agree with Chris, Leyland station is £1.00 for 24 hours. I have to admit though that even I park in the street rather than pay the £1.00 when a steam engine is due.
I certainly would not pay the high prices beiing charged at mailine stations. Maybe it is the MP's and the expenses teams the high prices are aimed at? Thanks Alan |
