Hi Pixie, welcome to the forum. As 2EOBLL says, 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' still exists and is currently active on the mainline and various visits to preserved lines around the country. There is one more 'Britannia' pacific that has survived and that is No.70000 'Britannia'. No.70000 is currently under overhaul at Crewe, and so is not generally accessible but will return to the mainline once the overhaul is complete.

Hello Hello Control and Pixie. John of Gaunt was built at Crewe in May 1951 (at a cost of only £18,000!) and withdrawn as you said from Carlisle (in December 1967). It was cut up at T W Ward in Sheffield. John of Gaunt was, I think, one of the batch (then allocated to the Western Region) that had the handrails removed from the smoke deflectors and replaced with handholds (photo will confirm or otherwise!) after the accident involving 70026 Polar Star when it was suggested that the drivers forward vision had been impaired.

Wonderful shot HelloControl.

John of Gaunt was certainly Duke of Lancaster.

Best wishes,

John H-T.
