Very good. Quite a bit of 0 gauge and modern image. I particularly like the Cromford Layout may upload some images later if they are OK. Hope you enjoy tomorrow.

How was Stafford today? I am just about to upload some photos together with some photos I took today at High peak Junction, Cromford (only 4 miles from home, which I hope will show just how good the Cromford Wharf Layout is! Last edited by John H-T; 5th February 2007 at 08:35.

John,
You have of course been to the Leewood Pumping Station to see a real engine in motion, not altogether off topic as the boilers used are ex LMS loco type dating back to about 1904 as far as I can remember. Does the Cromford Warf layout also include the sand box at the bottom of the incline that still has the remains of a runaway wagon inside it? John

We walked down to the Pumping Station yesterday but I have yet to see the engine in action (although I have seen the one at Middleton Top working.) Next steaming is Easter Weekend so hope to get there when I'm not working on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. The remains of the wagon are still in the catch pit. This year is the 40th aniversary of the closing of the C&HPR. Best wishes, John.

A couple of years ago we visited Cromford to watch the pump in action,
It is most impressive to see this big engine and such close quarters as it quietly goes up and down pumping I think something like 5 tons of water per stroke. We walked up the incline later but only went a little past the foundations or engine house of the winding engine. On a later expedition we did get to Middleton top but did not enter the engine house which was in operation that day as I was more interested in the old boilers outside. I am not sure how much of a 'layout' there is left there but seem to remember some wagons and other bits and pieces. I think we might be due for another expedition there this year but it is a bit of a jaunt from South of Peterborough and a day with good weather is really needed. I do not think if we do go that another hike up the incline will be included in the plans. But what a marvellous view on the way up. John

We have a very pleasant, less strenuous alternative based on catching the Train from Wirksworth (Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) up the incline to the old quarries. From there you can walk up to the National Stone Centre and then up to Middleton Top. That stretch of incline is not too long. After that: walk a bit further along the C&HPR track before turning off to walk down through the big quarry back to Wirksworth. Takes about 2 hours with 2 cafes enroute (National Stone Centre and Middleton Top)
