Bouncing around in Bordertown

G'day,
Our ATSB mob are busy regardless of the plague.
The latest incident report published concerning some run-a-way wagons at Bordertown.
https://www.atsb.gov.au/media/577867...-020_final.pdf
Kinda reminds me of another incident.
Does make you wonder.
But, I guess that train crew can become distracted or forgetful.
Sounds like the "derailer" wasn't much chop.
Look Out motorists, here comes a train without a loco.
At least these run-a-way wagons didn't demolish a signalbox like the coalie run-a-way in the Hunter Valley some many moons ago.
Steve.

Yo Steve, thanks for that. Interesting reading.

Being a cynical old git and one who always likes to find the easiest way of doing things, I can't help but wonder if they didn't fully exhaust the brake pipe so that they didn't have to waste time charging it back up after running round. Or then again maybe they just messed up. Been there.

Not making judgements you understand - if they gave out prizes for doing stupid things I'd have a house full of cups.

And good on the other driver for being able to screw the naughty train down. Takes some nerve.

Keep safe , BW

G'day BW,
The LAW is the LAW.
Especially after previous run-a-ways due to the inappropriate stabling of a train.
This crew were fortunate that no serious damage was sustained.
Chasing a rake of wagons and attempting to crank on handbrakes is VERY risky.
Trip and stumble and you know what the result could be.
I was gobsmacked many moons ago watching a bloke chase a water gin that was a run-a-way at Cowra,
Obviously, the water gin had been parked in a road behind the pair of Tin Hares.
CPH class rail motors.
A soot belcher was also stomping around and I presume that the water gin was on stand by if needed.
The pair of Tin Hares whistled out of Cowra loco to perform an hysterical run.
Shooting video of them Tin Hares wandering past, I suddenly caught a glimpse of a black object chasing them down to the station.
The water gin was rattling along attempting to catch them pair of Tin Hares.
Suddenly a bloke appeared sprinting along attempting to crank on the hand brake.
The wagon speed was fairly rapid by this stage and the circus disappeared around a bend out of sight.
I packed up and wandered down to the station and didn't espy any dents in them Tin Hares.
So, that bloke musta caught the wagon before it snotted them tin hares.
LVR mob copped some aggro from the Rail Regulator some years subsequent.
Any heavy industry can be dangerous, especially when taking short cuts.
Crawling under the old cattle car diaphragms to uncouple screw link was a PAIN.
Down on yer haunches trying not to snot yer noggin on the diaphragm and hefting the link up off the hook.
Firstly shutting the BP taps and uncoupling the hoses and then exhausting the air.
You would cop a fog of dust in yer eyes and WOE betide any bloke who let go of the hose when exhausting the air.
One bloke needed a new set of choppers after he let go of the hose and it flew up snotting him in the mouth.
GOOD RIDDANCE to stinking screw link couplings.
Welcome Uncle Sam and the auto knuckle.
Steve.
