As I understand it, Saltley IS closed and is NOT used for stabling point. (Waswood Heath Yard did take over this role, but I am not sure if this is still the case )

I know Saltley was downgraded to stabling point around 1986-ish, but it's a loooooong time since I was in the area. This site is pretty comprehensive, but I think it might not be COMPLETELY up to date, although it's cerainly recent - it is updated quite regularly:

Didcot did have a small diesel depot, The building is still there on the north side of the mainline between the station, and Foxall junction. It was mainly used by outstationed class 37's, on which it could do upto B exams.
Other loco classes could also be seen going for fuel
