John,
I don't know of a site specifically covering Arriva Trains Wales area but details of all rovers etc. available in the U.K. are here: http://www.atoc.org/retail/_downloads/NFM95/NFM95_Common_G.pdf There is also the Tocyn Taith marketed by Gwynedd Council here: http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/gwy_doc.asp?cat=2772&doc=16297&Language=1

I hope that I'll be forgiven for blatantly hijacking this thread, but have any of our members ever done a regional or All line railrover?
When I was a teenager, it was always the intention of me and my group of trainspotting mates to do an 'all liner'. Sadly, we never did. Most of our long distance spotting expeditions were done using the late lamented 'Merrymaker' services. Do 'all line' tickets still exist?

Yes Trev, they still exist.
Details are on the first page of the link that I posted for John_142. http://www.atoc.org/retail/_downloads/NFM95/NFM95_Common_G.pdf

Thanks John. I've been contemplating doing an all liner for a few weeks now. It wouldn't be until well after the old house move is completed, but it's something I'd like to consider. The only thing that really worries me is; would I be disappointed? I know at the back of my mind that I'm only thinking about an ALR as a pointless and futile attempt at recapturing my youth!

I know what you mean Trev. It probably would have been more interesting to have done it 25 years ago but I'm sure it's still worth doing. I don't think it's pointless or futile. I'm constantly on the lookout for ways to recapture my youth........admittedly, sometimes it does result in disappointment but very occasionally you hit on something that gives you a really nice feeling.

Despite the lack of loco variety, I'm still thinking seriously about it though. I just have to (a) kid my mate to come along with me and (b) sweet talk the missus!

Some weeks ago, I was asked about a Regional/Area Rover Ticket that includes March, Cambridgeshire. Sadly, since Privatisation came in, these have simply vanished. You can get them for travel to Ely or Peterborough, but NOT between the two anymore.

You can buy "SystemOne" day, week or month rovers here in Manchester which are valid across the "GMPTE".
I've bought them a couple times and just had a nice little hop across the network. Not got round to "all liner" yet (though I have with Metrolink, not too hard a feat. ) |
