Collapsed footbridge blocks Rome-Turin rail line

A railway footbridge in northern Italy partially collapsed early today, causing the temporary closure of the line running between Rome and Turin. No injuries were reported.

Police said the bridge fell shortly before 7.30am (6.30am Irish time) between the stations of Villanova and Villafranca, about 19 miles south-east of Turin, damaging the electric cables that run above the trains.

Long-distance trains were being rerouted and subject to delays, while a bus service was laid on for local commuters, police said.
