Distance between German railway stations?

Last weekend I was in Hannover and I spent a bit of time at the main station researching journeys to other towns in Germany. There is no doubting the efficiency of the German rail system but one thing that struck me was that, outside of the local travel area, even the cheapest rail fares are quite high. For example, a return ticket to the nearby town of Celle costs Eur18.60 and to Bremen Eur48.60.

However, I'm having great difficulty finding the distance by rail between German stations. Although I can measure them roughly on a map, I can't find any website that shows them. Maybe it's just the way I'm searching on Google but can anyone help please?
